The Batemans Bay Bridge is located on the Princes Highway approximately 270 kilometres south of Sydney and 150 kilometres east of Canberra. Constructed in 1956, the bridge is over 280 metres long and features a lift span used to allow commercial and recreational water traffic upstream. Due to the age and complexity of the structure, major elements of the bridge underwent an expensive mechanical/structural upgrade. This maintenance work was required to minimise a breakdown of the lift span equipment and minimise the potential for traffic congestion and delays. CDMS Electrical Engineers was engaged to implement improvements to the bridge to simplify the operation and to combat ongoing traffic incidents and delays.
The work involved a total electrical fitout of the bridge and installation of a new PLC and SCADA system and new submains and electrical distribution boards were installed as part of the works.
